Emergency Mold Removal in Toronto & the GTA

Burst pipe, backed-up drain, a flooded basement after a storm — mould does not wait for business hours, and the window for preventing it is short. Mold Remediation Toronto by FloodTech operates 24/7 across Toronto and the GTA with IICRC-certified technicians who can often attend the same day you call.

If water has entered the property, call 647-956-6121 now. The inspection is free and the clock matters more than the paperwork.

Why the first 48 hours decide how bad this gets

Mould needs moisture, a food source and time. Drywall, insulation, carpet underlay and wood provide the food; a wet building provides the moisture. Given both, growth can begin within roughly one to two days. Water extracted and materials dried inside that window often means no remediation is needed at all — the same water left for a week usually means removing material.

That is the whole reason emergency response exists. It is far cheaper to dry a building fast than to remediate it later.

What to do before we arrive

  • If it is safe, stop the water at the source — shut off the supply valve
  • Do not enter standing water where it may be in contact with electrics
  • Treat any water involving sewage or drain backflow as contaminated and keep people and pets out of it
  • Lift what you can off wet floors and move contents out of the affected area
  • Photograph everything before anything is moved or removed — your insurer will want it
  • Do not run a domestic fan across a mouldy area; it spreads spores rather than drying the structure

What an emergency call-out involves

Assessment and moisture mapping

An IICRC-certified technician assesses the extent of water intrusion with instruments, using thermal imaging to find moisture that has travelled inside walls, under flooring and into cavities. Water moves further than it looks, and the visible wet patch is rarely the full extent.

Containment where growth already exists

If mould has already established, the area is sealed under negative pressure before anything is disturbed, and HEPA air scrubbing runs throughout. Disturbing existing growth without containment is how a localised problem becomes a whole-property one.

Removal, treatment and drying

Saturated porous materials that cannot be dried in place are removed, surfaces are treated with an antimicrobial, and the structure is dried properly rather than superficially.

Clearance testing and documentation

Post-clearance testing confirms the result, and you receive documentation of the work and a prevention plan. If clearance testing shows remaining elevation, we return at no additional charge under our mold-free guarantee.

Insurance

Most Ontario policies distinguish between sudden, accidental water damage and gradual deterioration, which is why the cause and the timeline matter so much to a claim. We liaise with insurers directly and provide the documentation they ask for. We are remediation contractors rather than insurance advisers, so your broker remains the right person to confirm what your policy covers — but the photographs you take before anything is moved will help either way.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly can you get here?

We operate 24/7 and can often attend the same day you call. When you phone, tell us what the water source is and how much of the property is affected — that determines what we bring.

Is it an emergency if there is no visible mould yet?

Often yes. The urgent part is the water, not the mould. Getting a building dried before growth starts is the cheapest outcome available to you.

Do you handle sewage backup?

Water involving sewage is treated as contaminated and handled differently from clean water — more material is removed and the cleaning standard is higher. Tell us on the call if that is what you are dealing with.

Should I start pulling up flooring myself?

Lift contents and soft furnishings if you can do it safely. Leave structural material alone — removing it without containment can spread contamination, and it can complicate an insurance claim if it happens before anything is documented.
